DMLS or Direct Metal Laser Sintering for Rapid Prototyping

What if we can create metal prototypes?

We can now.  DMLS, or Direct Metal Laser Sintering, is an additive technology used in rapid prototyping. EOS, a company specializing in e-Manufacturing, developed the EOSINT M 280 machine. It is sophisticated equipment that fabricates parts by laser sintering—that is, using the heat of a laser to melt powder into solids—fine layers of metal powders together, layer by layer. This metallurgical process has been called not just a prototyping tool, but a viable manufacturing alternative that efficiently delivers parts in great volume and at competitive prices.

This on-demand technology can build layer upon layer and at the level of complexity you need.  The laser-sintering process is done all at one time so if movable parts are necessary, it can be built into the CAD file instead of incurring assembly charges post production.

The process eliminates traditional tooling, and can be used in a number of applications, including:

  • die-casting
  • inserts for plastic injection molding

We’re proud to offer our clients this leading-edge technology from EOS.

Thogus Customer Experiences

"I first met Matt Hlavin at a MAPP conference a couple years ago.  The conference had just ended and I really felt compelled to introduce myself and hopefully strike up a relationship. I told him I was very impressed with the business model he was creating, and that I hoped to emulate some of the things he is doing such as introducing energetic young talent to the Injection Molding world.
