The Operations Manager develops, manages & supports all functions on the production floor to ensure we meet customers’ requirements.  This position requires effective communications skills, decision making which drives action and ensures that operations continue to evolve & grow.

 

The primary goal of this position is to effectively plan, communicate & manage the operation to drive safe, profitable & sustainable growth.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Executive Management Position
  • Office Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Company is open 24 hours/day.  Three shifts Monday-Friday; 12 hour shifts Saturday-Sunday
  • Position requires working closely with all production shifts; which will require flexibility to work with off shifts as needed

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensures that the company operates daily in a safe functional manner
  • Manages self, projects and team members according to the company’s defined core values
  • Plans, organizes and directs the manufacturing operations, in a manner, which assures the most effective return on assets employed
  • Initiates plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital
  • Assures attainment of programs and schedules while ensuring high quality standards
  • Reviews, analyzes, plans, coordinates and leads all activities within the manufacturing operations organization
  • Develops and implements manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the manufacturing operations group supports the strategic initiatives
  • Assures the development and coordination of systems and programs to promote cost effective manufacturing operations in line with manufacturing plans and objectives; support programs and procedures that provide reliable products within minimum quality control, repair, scrap, and warranty expense
  • Confers with the President and other management personnel to establish production and quality control standards to develop budget and cost controls and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the success of the organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities                

  • Proficiency in budgeting & analysis of performance metrics to financial targets & goals
  • Ability to interpret statistical & accounting information to appraise operating results in the terms of costs, budgets, policies & profit/loss
  • Able to work at the management level to prioritize and provide strategic direction to a team of cross-functional departments and follow through on expectations
  • Overall understanding of manufacturing methods
  • Effective in customer communication to understand and ascertain requirements
  • Good with people. A good teacher. Able to quickly take many different perspectives/ opinions at once and create a logical conclusion/solution
  • Knowledge of quality management and methodologies to be able to extrapolate these needs to product development

Education, Training and/or Experience                   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering required – prefer MS/MA/MBA
  • 10+ years in capital intensive manufacturing environment, with machining and assembly required
  • 10+ years management in experience in manufacturing required
  • Experience with contract manufacturing – desired
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team
  • Finance / Cost analysis
  • Lean manufacturing
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Language Skills                   

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence professionally
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, customers & suppliers
  • Good communication skills with the ability to articulate and explain ideas in both technical and non-technical terms to both customers and team members

Mathematical Skills                  

  • Ability to develop ROI and other financial analyses to build the appropriate business cases for new technologies and/or new product development ideas
  • Ability to perform detailed, data-based analyses to determine risk evaluations and to develop long term risk mitigation plans

Reasoning Ability                   

  • Ability to politely challenge team members that may lack the experience or knowledge to adequately solve problems to which they have been assigned
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • A creative problem solver, with the ability to think on your feet

Computer Skills                   

  • Proficient in MS Office programs, Internet, and email communication
  • Microsoft Office Suite Skills—Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems
